Josef Niederhammer

Born in Linz, Austria, He began playing the instrument at the age of six – first on the violin, the cello later. At the age of 14 he changed his instrument for the double bass.

In 1977 he graduated with honors, and in 1993 he got Master of Fine Arts and engagement at the Symphonic Orchestra in Vienna and Bamberg.

1978-1986 - principal bassist in Munich's Bayerische Staatsorchester

1986-1991 - principal bassist in Munich Philharmonic

1979-1984 - teacher at the Richard-Strauss Conservatory in Munich

1980-1991 - teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich

since 1991 - professor of double bass at the Academy of Music and Fine Arts in Vienna

2001-2004 - lecturer at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester

1979 - Winner of the ARD Competition in Munich

The artist tours around the world solo and with chamber ensembles, a member of the "Wiener Virtuosen" and "Ensemble Wien"

Participates in master classes such as the International Summer Academy Semmering 2006-2012
